Will BMW release a 2018 all-electric X7?

New BMW electric SUV

For decades, BMW has been one of the auto world’s top-tier competitors. So, when Tesla and Audi announced to the world that they were bringing all-electric SUVs to the market, BMW wasn’t far behind in concocting a plan to build a better one. While the BMW board has yet to approve/confirm whether or not the SUV will actually be produced, we have information on what the SUV would have to entail to take on brands like Tesla and Audi. And, while we may be biased (we love BMW!), we don’t doubt that BMW could take on the competition. If you’re curious about the new BMW electric SUV, read on. We’ve heard rumors of which model could see an all-electric engine.

While BMW has yet to confirm whether or not it will make an electric SUV (the brand is waiting to see how Tesla’s does on the market), there are some standard features the SUV would absolutely need in order to be worthy competition. In BMW’s rumored SUV, an all-electric supercharge engine would need to be the powerhouse, and it would also have to be able to travel at least 250 miles per charge. While 250 miles is quite a stretch, Audi is apparently planning one that can reach 310 miles, setting the bar even higher. If BMW would want to be the all-electric preference, its range would have to be stellar. Recent whisperings have also implied that BMW will make one of its already-planned models into the all-electric SUV: the 2018 BMW X7.

Again, there hasn’t been anything confirmed from BMW, but there hasn’t been anything denied either. Since the demand for the Tesla Model X is growing, it seems that BMW would have a good reason to produce an all-electric SUV, using the already-slated X7. Since 2018 seems to be too soon for the release of an all-new electric X7, it has been rumored that it may be seen post-2018 (perhaps 2019).
