History of Mercedes-Benz AMG
Former Mercedes engineers- Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher- began AMG in 1967. Originally, the company was meant to be a place for producing race engines, which is similar to the AMG we see on the market today  (only it has become a brand of vehicles). The Mercedes-AMG lineup focuses on giving the cars under its name race-quality performance, better handling, and improved stability. The brand also incorporates more carbon fiber into the AMG models’ makeup (more so than the non-AMG models), which assists with the overall weight and performance of the individual models. Several of Mercedes-Benz’ most popular models have had an AMG version incorporated into their lineups, providing a unique spin on Mercedes-Benz products.
What does AMG mean?
While it may be clear that AMG is Mercedes-Benz’ performance division, it may not be so clear what the A, M and G stand for. In fact, the AMG title pays tribute to the founders of the company. The A represents Aufrecht, the M to Melcher and the G is a reference to Grossaspach (the village where Aufrecht was born). The brand remains successful today, as many drivers around the world appreciate improved performance on their favorite models.
