Mercedes-Benz IAA Concept reveal

Mercedes-Benz’ new, aerodynamic concept car

Mercedes-Benz IAA Concept reveal

Mercedes-Benz is notorious for making mountains out of molehills (and we mean that in a good way). For decades, the brand has exceeded the expectations of the masses by inventing and even producing some ideas that seemed impossible. Now that Mercedes-Benz has tackled the self-driving vehicle, it has moved on to making a vehicle that can transform at high speeds. Yes, you heard us correctly, the Mercedes-Benz IAA Concept reveal at the Frankfurt Auto Show gave viewers a glimpse of the brand’s new “aerodynamic mode.” If you’re curious what this mode means, we have the scoop. Read on for details!

What does Mercedes-Benz IAA stand for?

Mercedes-Benz has given us the meaning of IAA, and it stands for Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile. Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber (who is a member of the Daimler Board of Management) commented on the new vehicle saying “…The ‘Concept IAA’ applies intelligent innovations to resolve the conflicting aims of functionality and aesthetics and shows that we still have plenty of ideas on how to achieve further improvements in efficiency.” We certainly would agree with Dr. Weber, since the IAA Concept can transform at the touch of a button to deliver better efficiency. If you’re curious just what it means to go into “aerodynamic mode”, read on!

What Aerodynamic mode does

Like we hinted at earlier, the IAA Concept opens up a world of possibility. Aerodynamic mode is meant to transform the vehicle into a, well, more aerodynamic car. When a driver switches from design mode to aerodynamic mode, the vehicle changes shape, allowing air to flow more freely over the vehicle. It is intended to offer a smooth, more efficient ride to drivers. While the idea may seem far-fetched, Mercedes-Benz never ceases to amaze the auto world by producing these incredible new technologies. So, do we think we’ll see the IAA Concept produced? Only time will tell.
