There are already plug-in hybrid versions of the 3- , 5- and 7-Series models, as well as the X5 SUV. Each model that offers this falls under BMW’s i performance category – where the famous i3 and i8 also sit. These types of powertrains fall under the electric category, which means that the brand will just have to add batteries to the models we listed above.

As for fuel-cell technology, the brand anticipates also breaking into this market within the next decade, as it doesn’t anticipate the market for electricity will be a massive seller.
