Put it in park and pop the hood

Regardless of the type of vehicle you’re driving, it’s important to stop your vehicle in a safe location (a well-lit gas station for instance). Once that step is complete, be sure to put your vehicle in park and turn it off. Once your vehicle is completely off, that’s when it’s safe to pop the hood and start searching for the location of your washer fluid.

Find where your washer fluid is located

Despite popular belief, it isn’t difficult to locate your washer fluid once you’ve opened up the hood. Whether you drive a Mercedes or an Audi, your washer fluid should be located in a white, translucent tank with a specified symbol on top. You can see this symbol on the bottom of this page. If the fluid looks full enough, don’t feel obligated to fill it.

Fill it up and replace the cap

If the fluid does need to be added to, it’s important to do so. If you have a steady hand and feel you’re capable of filling it up without a funnel, that’s completely acceptable – just be careful not to spill a large amount of fluid on the engine. Large amounts can damage the vehicle. If you spill a few drops, you should be fine to wipe it up and close the hood.
