How does holographic technology work?

Every once-in-a-while, you find an automotive brand that’s ahead of its time. BMW is no stranger to innovation, and that is especially apparent now that the brand’s  HoloActive Touch technology has been announced. The technology will be revealed at CES 2017, but that hasn’t stopped the auto world from digging up some news – and it’s exciting. Will the BMW i8 Roadster make it to production?

BMW constantly keeps the auto world on its toes, especially when it comes to new technology. One prime example of this is the brand’s concept models. Nearly four years ago, the brand released the BMW i8 Spyder Concept, giving viewers the notion that it would be released in the near future. Holographic technology is essentially an image that is created from a reflection. The reflection allows the image to be produced in such a way that makes it look like it’s floating on air. In theory, people should be able to interact with this image that’s floating in space. If holographic technology sounds like something that you’ve seen in films, but never thought could be possible in real life, we have to say we were with you. However, BMW seems to be changing the course of what we once thought possible.

Will BMW produce a vehicle with holographic technology?

As it turns out, the way that BMW will reveal the HoloActive Touch technology as a concept. It’s an update on BMW Gesture Control – seen in the BMW 7 Series – which means that it could very well be seen in some of the brand’s future models. We’re sure that more detail will be revealed once CES 2017 rolls around – so stay tuned!
